Coaches every season, no matter what sport, talk about being “battle tested”. In those situations, it allows you to show how you perform under adversity. A coach wants their team by tournament time to have that experience and thrive. Last night Muncie Central showed just that. They upset 4A Fishers on the road 70-66 thanks in large part to a lights out shooting night. While Fishers never let Muncie Central get too far ahead, the Bearcats’ efficiency offensively was the difference.
Even without arguably their 2nd or 3rd best player Marcus Dukes last night, more players stepped up in his absence. Coach Jeff Holloway went with a new starting lineup by starting Jemel Barnes, Duane Clemens, Phillip Corthen, Casey Thompson, and Donald Allen. This was the first time this season this 5 started. Well…it worked!! Barnes, Clemens, Corthen, and Allen all scored in double figures in the game. Muncie Central was lethal from beyond the arc with Barnes leading the way with 6 3s by himself. The Bearcats knew their shooting had to be a premium because of the length of Fishers inside. The Tigers had 5 players 6’5 or taller to just 1 for Muncie Central.
It was an early Christmas present for the Bearcats. One they certainly earned. They have a week off until their next game, which is against Wapahani at home on December 30th.
